2010

December:

We usually don't have a December meeting, so we read  The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks over Christmas.

November:

We had a wonderful meeting on Nov. 9th at Julia's house.

We read The House at Riverton by Kate Morton and enjoyed an English Tea with scones, sandwiches, desserts and of course, tea. Thanks Julia!

October:

The meeting in October was

on Tuesday Oct 12th. The book was The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Summer 2010 Reading:

We read The Zookeeper's Wife for July and we skipped August.

We decided to read Half Broke Horses for June because we read Jeannette Walls' other book The Glass Castle

May:

We met at our bookstore and discussed: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.

April:

We had dinner at a member's house and discussed a medley of books about late 19th century Texas, the frontier West, the cattle trains and women pioneers and cowgirls.  We discussed the role of women in that era (and the role of the beefcow).    See the page on this website "Women and cows in Texas" for details about the books.

March: ?

February:

On Tuesday Feb  9th we met in our midtown cafe location and  discussed The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokow.  We told lots of great stories about our parents which we need to consider writing down.

January:

On Saturday January 23rd, we had our "End of the Year,  Election of Best Book and Couples Party" at the Home of Susie

We all brought wonderful food and drink. We need to consider a cookbook.

Also we had a very successful Book Swap and were able to recycle and share our favorites. Any books that were not selected by members were given to Barbara for donation to the Book Sale at her kid's school.

Our January 2010  book was The Glass Castle, A Memoir by Jeannette Walls. We talked about this book more than usual.
